I'm sorry to hear your church youth leader played such a defiling movie. Zombie Consumerism is the perfect term for what happens on Black Friday -throngs of us rushing to stores salivating over sales- mindlessly caught in a cultural ritual that b...

I don't like horror flicks and I never have (especially after our church youth leader showed Silence of the Lambs during a pizza/movie night when I was 11, I didn't sleep for the next few years). I don't know much about zombies, nor do I understan...

Urban Church Community Garden Feeds The Hungry

Welcome Friends and Travelers!

Welcome to the Sustainable Traditions online community!

We are a network of Christians of all streams and backgrounds who are in pursuit of a more 'whole-life' Christian faith. JESUS called us to love GOD and love our neighbor as ourselves. It is out of this love that we seek to embody His Gospel through Biblically-informed sustainable living, intentional community, social justice and the cultivating of 'the age to come' in the hear and now.

We are all on a journey of faith. We encourage you to come: with your questions, with your gifts, with your open arms. Let's sit around this virtual table and share together, talk together, dream a little together, about what it means to pursue GOD's upside down kingdom in the context of a more holistic walk of faith.

Stay Tuned for our upcoming blogazine: launching Winter 2009

Temple and presence, Order from chaos

In ancient times a temple was the center of life, it was where your deity came down to earth to meet with you. The presence of a deity was at it's temple. Often in warfare the taking of another's temple was the “capture the flag” of the day. This is probably why the temples got looted and desecrated whenever an invading army rolled through. It was the ultimate national humiliation. It was a way of saying, “Our god is bigger than your god and we'll prove it”. Remember when the Philistines capture… Continue

An update of sorts.

If you looked at my page here you could easily come to the conclusion that I haven't been involved all that much. I think the last time I had any actual contact on the site was in June. This, however, doesn't mean that I haven't logged on, read through all the posts, contemplated, and dreamed with all of you. I've been here. Just a bit silent.

Some of my silence is due to my recent history. For the past 8 of the past 10 years I have worked in some form of Christian ministry. I've worked for cam… Continue

Christmas

A little over two thousand years ago, an unwed teenage girl, in a barn a long way from her home, and in a country occupied by a foreign military superpower, gave birth to a son. Lacking anything else to put him in, she laid the baby to rest in an animal feed trough, where he was admired by a group of outcast children who worked as shepherds, and who had heard of his birth.

Having entered the world in the most humble circumstances possible, this boy would eventually give everything he and God ha… Continue
